NDP calls on Health Minister to address disturbing report of sexual assault survivors turned away from hospital

QUEEN’S PARK – Jill Andrew, NDP Critic for Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity, and Jennie Stevens, MPP for St. Catharines, are calling on Health Minister Sylvia Jones to address a disturbing report of sexual assault survivors being turned away from their local hospital unit. In a letter to Jones released Thursday, Andrew and Stevens implore Jones to address concerns that survivors have been told to come back the next day or travel outside their community to access urgent care, and take immediate steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again in St. Catharines or anywhere else in Ontario.
